Ok so I have my 120 gallon which is a 4 by 2 by 2. It has 2 Oscars and Jag in it right now all between 12 and 14 inches so they are full grown. I then I have my Jar who is at 10 inches. This guy when I got him had already killed a Rohm and a Peacock Bass that were the same size as him at around 5 inches. I took him from my friend was going to put him in his red belly tank (there were 8 of them at 6 inches). Right now he is in a 55 gallon which is 4 by 13 by 16ish. I know that is to small for him in the long run but he is doing fine in the their right now. I don't want to get rid of my oscars they are my first fish (well fish that I consider fish). So my question is do you think that he would be able to handle his own with the oscars which are 4+ times his body mass or whole he get himself wrecked from just being to aggresive with them? Oh and just so I dont have to deal with it I know that the 120 is to small for him by his self in the long run but its the best that i can do for now. I am a starving university student.

You could try it, but if the jar starts picking on the other fish, you should move it back into the 55.

My guess is it should work for a good while.
But with any situation like that keep a close eye on things.

It may help to rearange the tank just before you add the Jar.

As long as the 2 oscars and the jag doesn't show aggression to the jar, then they'll be alright for a few weeks. The jar will start killing your fish once it settle down and start knowing it's tanksmates.

Ha, yes! A lot of people I know think that this is a complete waste of time, but it actually helps!

I agree that you can definiltey try it. It could go either way. The jar could bully the cichlids, or the cichlids could bully the jar.. Or it might be peaceful.. Just try it out and keep a close eye on it for a while.

It's not going to happen because of the fact that I know got a breeding pair of oscars and when the eggs come my Jar would get the beaten bad. So I figure that I am just going to leave it and wait till I have enough money to buy myself a 300 gallon tank.

How big is your jar now and how big are the oscars? If the jar already pass 10", your pair of oscar will no longer be pair. A friend of mine got a pair of flowerhorn and they are very aggresive. He then introduce a jar which is 14". The jar killed the female flowerhorn and beat up the male badly.

the jar is now around 11 and i'm just not going to it, because I think that the oscars would actually kill the jar they are at 14 inches and 3 times as thick as the jar.

Good idea Coel. That is definitely the safest idea.
