Full Version: Silver Arowana Keepers
i have a 16 inch arowana for over 1 year now i feed him 1 time daily at 630 pm eastern time his diet is 3 by 3 piece of turkey slice. is that too too fatty he used to eat cichlid sticks till he reached 12 inches. his eye isnt droped yet but ill tell you me he eats all the plecoas i putin there. i would like to know your fish story about your arowna black or silver and blue only ex tank size time they live size they are or were eeats... thnks
That's a good looking fish. He does look like he's got a little drop eye on that left eye.
I've had three silvers. Two jumped out at around 16". They were kept at one time or another in a 20g (when one of them was small), 90g and 180g. I now have a 16" black aro in a 180g. He was purchased from a retailer by a friend and put in a 600g. Then I got him and put him the 180g. I got a 30" silver aro from a kid who had raised him to 30" in a 75g. Although I know it was horrible, the fish didn't look ALL that cramped in it.. At least not as cramped as I thought he would have. He's now in my 450g.
All of them that I have had eat cichlid pellets ok. All have also eaten market seafood like shrimp, scallops, squid and octopus. I now keep both of my aros on about 80% catfish filet and 20% hikari cichlid gold. They are occasionally able to snap up some feeder rosies or fat heads. They both eat like crazy. There are fish in the 450g with the silver that he could definitely eat, but he doesn't show them any interest.
The silver has drop eye in both eyes. The black has none. Both are kept between 80* and 90*.
Anything else?

thaks that means alot coming from other aquarist
I agree with Dan. a good variety of food always leads to a healtier happier fish. I also feed mine Catfish, fresh shrimp, earthworms, rosey reds, and cichlid gold pellets. It really helps in bringing out the best color possible. I got mine at about 8" and he's about 15-16" now. I keep him in a 220 with other fish that he could eat if he wanted but doesn't pay them any attention.
