biggrin.gif Well in south Florida there are quite a few LFS or “Aquariums”…

In Miami on bird road alone there are 7 LFS in about a mile distance, some on the same block as the others. My experience over the last few years:

Neighborhood fish farm… I worked there so I know first hand how it can be.
If you want a large selection of prime Goldfish i.e. – Orandas, ranchu, bubble eye, etc this is the place to go.
Great selection in cichlids, guppies, and a few rarities that you wont find anywhere else in Miami.

Strictly Fish – recently downgraded in size, but still great source for saltwater fish

Amazing aquariums – Used to have a greater variety of fish, now primarily salt water and not that great a selection, or prices

Reef Aquariums – Great selection of saltwater fish, normal prices

Exotic aquariums – By far the best aquarium store to have both salt and freshwater…will find a little bit of everything here. Great service. If you need a custom tank this is the place. Strictly, Amazing, Atlantis all send their custom tanks to Exotic to have them built or altered (i.e. Overflow added) and therefore charge more to cover the charge + profit. Go straight to the source.

Atlantis Aquariums- in My opinion the second best “all around” store in Miami. Basically the same as Exotic.

Executive Aquariums – Selection in saltwater not very vast, but always find some real oddballs that the other stores do not have.

Aquamart
– I think the old owner had it better run with some real great imports from Indonesia. Now more of your run of the mill saltwater store, with a section in fresh.

Aquarama – probably the oldest LFS in Miami, still worth going…just started to expand. Nice selection.

Jack Wattley in North Miami. If you know the name it speaks for itself. GREAT discus selection.

Bennys tropical fish – in Pembroke pines. Worth the 30-45 minute drive. By far the BEST selection in cichlids, plecos I have ever seen at a LFS.
You can usually find him on aquabid as well.

Jaws – only place I really know in ft. Lauderdale, but one of the best selections of saltwater ive seen…actually probably the best since aquamart changed owners.

Angels Hatchery – (homestead) Nice Cichlids, Decent Imported Koi but outrages prices…go for the scenery if nothing else.

You will find a few other stores, but they seem to come and go and don’t really supply anything out of the ordinary….these are the ones I thought worth mentioning. There are a few other locations that are more of a challenge to find. Not really open to public, wholesalers and such…those are for the real enthusiast to contact. Pm if interested…Know of a few great African cichlid importers in homestead. Amazonian imports in Miami, and Japanese Koi in broward.

been to exotic aquariums and there's nothing exotic about it. just the norm for me, petco has a better selection of cichlids.

Petco had a better selection I think is a bit of an exaggeration, maybe the same...I agree they dont have the best cichlid selection. If thats what you need the best for Africans is easily Bennys in pembroke pines. So/CE American is a bit of a hit or miss all around..maybe neighborhood, but youre better off calling ahead if you need something in particular. If you really want the best selection in So/CE American Cichlids you need to go directly to the wholesalers..they dont sell locally but can be "persuaded" to do so.

Larry,

Ive ony seen macrolepidota on rare occasion at LFS, and im pretty sure it was at exotic. I would contact them <(305) 266-0978 > first and see if you can have them ordered..Frank or Karen are the head honcho's to ask..

There is also Aquarium Depot (305) 596-3373 Located at Town and country mall in kendall that might get these. The owners are asian and have some contacts* wink.gif Good luck!!

ps. how about one bird rd address, while i'm down looking i'd like to try and find them also.

When you call Exotic, get their address they are just off 826 on bird. its like bird and 74 ave I think..If you go a few blocks west of exotic youll hit amazing aquariums and strictly fish on your right, just before 84th ave.
