The guy i bought my last asian aro off of says he can get me a AAA grade super red arowana for 3000 canadian. Is this a good deal, or at least half decent. If so i might have to get one in the summer.

That price is about right for a near colored-out sub-adult. Can't be certain without seeing it (multi-view and close ups). What size did he quote you?
pintsofguinessmakeyoustrong
He's ordereing a dozen from somewhere in asia in the next couple months. Said they'll be about six inches. He said the guy he talked to says by 12 inches they'll be fully coloured.

This is the same guy i was thinkin about buying the purple base chili red off of and that aro was the nicest fish i've ever seen.

He doesnt have anyt pics yet but was told they are the highest grade you can get.

he have any certs to prove it??as far as i know, these type of aros require a cert to keep them outside asia.im not too sure about it.

Better find out where they are coming from, what farm. You'll want them to be from a legit place that will have them properly tagged and with proper certs or the Canadian gov't is going to confisgate them coming into the country. Also, you'll want to be sure it's a decent farm so you know you'll really be getting a decent red fish not something that is a sucky wannabe red. Also, if you see pics from the farm make sure they are naturally lighted....not with NAN red lights. If you notice some farms take pics out of the water with the person holding them in natural light, these pics are most accurate. Then you'll see others that are in a tank with red NAN lighting, the lighting can make a green look like a nice red so you have no idea what you're buying. Obviously you aren't going to use NAN at home so you're going to want something that is naturally red. Good luck, dropping $3000 on a single fish is always a big risk.....hopefully you'll get what you are looking for.

Are you part of the Vancouver group order? If so, and he says they are AAA grade, then they are AAA grade. $3000 sounds a little high though, i believe he could get cross backs and high grade reds for $1200 USD. And if you are part of the group order they are coming from Panda Aquatics of course with certs. And no matter where you live asian aros need certs.

The aro i bought off of him did come with a certificate. I believe the chili red he had before was from DFI so i'm assuming tahts where they'll be coming from.

Apparently not silvcic,

Anyways, Pints, If you're looking for high grade arowanas you might want to consider coming down to Vancouver for them (when the order goes through). The prices are considerably cheaper, Pandas famous highback RTG is only 550 CAD thats including shipping and taxes. Crossbacks and reds are 1200 USD, but much cheaper than any LFS in town.

On a side not, i never understood why the crossbacks and reds are priced in USD when they are illegal there

streetcypher. have u gotten a RTG off the stratos dude? i'm thinkin of it..pretty damn good deal.
Street Cypher
I was going to, but funds fell through and ended up not being able to afford another tank for it. Its a killer deal considering they go for at least double the price at any LFS.

I've seen the actual fish, very nice aros. I also bought an awesome arowana book off him as well, it shows a mature panda highback RTG, VERY IMPRESSIVE when it get older!

3000 sounds like a lot up there, actually, hardly anyone would pay that down in the U.S. either for a red. i don't know pricing in Canada but, being legal, i can't imagine it would be more that half what people are paying in the U.S. (quality reds 5"-10" go for about 2500). go to arofanatics.com to see what locals pay and to see what farms produce good specimens of what types of scleropages formosus. also, you can buy a scanner to i.d. the chip in your fish to the cert. (or at least see if the seller has one and can do it with you). ultimately though, it can take years to become a good judge of quality fish, and the most important part of keeping an auspicious fish like this, is that you're happy. good luck

My 2-3" Silver Aro grew to 19" in 1 yr in my 240 Long (96x24x24) but he is by no means an adult. He's about 1 yr and 7 months now and only 20-22".

If you can get a DFI red aro , grade AAA for 3000 then it sounds like a good deal.

I've seen some fantastic quality DFI reds, and i've seen some that weren't so impressive.. All you getting for your extra money is a better chance, not a guarentee of quality.

I personally think Xian-Leng has some of the best red aro's.

The vancouver group order, a quality red from panda will cost about 1700 when all the tax's and import fee's are taken care of.

For 3k tho, the cert better say is super high quality or aaa grade right on it lol
dinhy34
u guys r lucky u live out of the US but i have to obay the law and other crap but if i could get on i would get 2 or 3 since 3k is not that much.
