What plants do you want? different species of plants require different amounts of light.right now you have approx 1.4 watts of light.Theres a chart in the pinned info thats a general guide to light requirements of different plants -Anne

he doesn't even have a 1 watt right now per gal. Divide 40 by 55. Go to AHSupply.com and check out their kits.
Saltwater Tanks:
45 gal. - 2 Percula Clowns, 1 Yellow Tailed Blue Damsels
Freshwater Tanks:
10 gal. - 1 Spotted Cory, 2 Common Plecos, 4 Striped Danios
Empty Tanks:
20,10,10

With the lighting you have stick with low light plants such as java moss, wisteria, watersprite. If you want to upgrade your lighting go with a 65 to 96watt bulb preferably a compact flo. light-reason being is that you can get a single bulb hood that will put out 96watt instead of multiple bulb light units. With this many watts (1-2 per gallon) you will be able to keep almost any plant and grow it,but there are other factors that keep plants growing other than the light...i'll post a link for you later that explains it well in easy to understand terms. As for lights, another good place to find complete units is Ebay in the fish section under pets! thumbsup.gif

I have successfully kept the following kinds of plants in aquaria with less than 1 watt per gallon:

All commonly available species of Cryptocoryne
Java Fern (Microsorium pteropus
African Fern (Bolbitis sp.)
Aponogeton ulvaceus
Many species of Anubias
Many species of Sagittaria

When I say I 'successfully' kept them...I mean they not only stayed alive but they actually grew reasonably vigorously. I generally use Flourish Tabs underneath the gravel near the root-feeding plants (Cryptocoryne, Sagittaria and Aponogeton) and add some Flourish (liquid plant fertilizer) at about 1/2 the dosage recommended on the bottle.

Hope this helps.
