I know Dracofish has an Jard...and it's a killer. Anyone else have any experiences with tankmates? I'm considering one for my 600 gallon. You can see the tankmates below. Thanks in advance.

It's easier to just get a silver or a black, or even an Asian depends on who you know.

They are just not worthe the time IMO. Too agro, I wouldn't risk it with your expensive fish even in a tank of that size they can get pushy. I had my big guy in my 450 gal, and he was still an absolute asshole. Stick with a south american, or a leichardti if you have your heart set on an Aussie arowana, leichardti's are great fish, and better looking then Jardini's IMO.

I want to know that person biggrin.gif

Peckolita is right, Jars are aggressive. I had bala sharks who took it pretty good cause they were quick but the irridescents were always stressed. The black shark dished it out too so it was left alone

I have a 14" S. jardini. I have been unable to find any tankmates for him. Believe it or not, but I am even unable to keep plecos with him. eusa_naughty.gif

My 19-inch jardini is currently housed with a variety of tankmates, including a 15-inch mbu puffer, four 7-10-inch datnoids, three 8-10-inch brycons, and six 10-14-inch bichirs. It really only chases the datnoids around. sad.gif I think the key is to get enough tankmates so that its aggression is not focused on a single fish.

i would tend to aggree with our pun-pushing friend here tongue.gif

although aggression varies from individual fish to individual fish, and jards are notorious as a species anyway; it can be done with the jard and tankmates. as in any case of predatory tankmates, i think it will just take some serious observation and having some options open.

my friend had a jard with a datnoid and some other fishes and the only fish it didnt chase was the datnoid...another situation with a jard a gar and a couple bichirs works well (although the jard definitely rules the tank).

i think you have space on your side here as well as plenty of tankmates, you will see warning signs well in advance of anything serious (at least with your gars).--

I've kept my Jardinis with tankmates no problems, maybe mine are the "rare" docile ones. I've kept them with tankmates from young so i think that might be an important factor.

I used to think that too. Raised a 4" Jar with same size or larger tankmates. Everything was good until Jar reached 7" then LOOKOUT!
