howdy, ya'll smile.gif i'm looking to get a black arowana this thursday from my supplier. he is getting me one in the 10"-12" range. I have a 240g running with a few koi right now and have to keep all fish stocked as close to 10" as I can get as i'm adding 2 Cichla orinocensis to the tank and anything less will be eaten. the tank is asian inspired. lots of crazy fish and overstocked with daily big water changes and high quality foods.

i'm wondering what to feed this arowana? if this fish is fresh from the river do you think i'll have a problem feeding it?

thanks for any info smile.gif

crickets, pellets, worms, feeders, shrimp, fish filet... i am sure there are others smile.gif

and if "Howdy Ya'll" implies you are from Texas, and if you are near Dallas in that case, Keller Farms has 2 Black Arowanas left for $100. pretty good deal.

smile.gif didn't know our kind ventured that far North! Damn Yankee!

Looks like you got the food sorted out already! You should still look into pellets though. By far the best food for them. BigAlsOnline.com has the Hikari fairly cheap, and if you want to experiment they have their own version that my old Silver wouldnt touch.

if you go shrimp, get them frozen in bulk from the grocery store and keep them in your freezer and then defrost when they are ready.

I just want to second Rich's advice on the Azoo sticks. My pbass like 'em too.

Have fun with the aros, but you are sure right about the water! I opened the door of one of my tanks this weekend to take a water sample and my hand was still on the door as one of my 22" silvers went right over my shoulder. Luckily, I keep a piece of bed sheet nearby and had him back in the tank in less than 15 seconds. That was the first time one of my fish ever jumped out of the tank, but it had to happen someday. At the apex of its jump, the aro must have been over three feet above the water.
