This Jardini has been peacuful so far. He is living with some silverdollars and some cats. I was wondering if I can add something else. Maybe a cichlid or something.

I am thinking about Rays. Do they need special care?

rays are very nice and tame fishes to keep. they are not as aggressive as most people thought.
since you already have experience with catfishes i don't think rays would be a problem for you. just like catfishes, rays are very sensitive to salt and chemicals. your water must always be in perfect condition. if not you can easily kill the ray.
i've lost 2 rays in the past. 1 was due to my negligence of my water parameter and the other was due to chlorine burn. my MM is my 3rd ray now. hope that things will go smoothly for this piece now. it's also my most expensive ray and one of my most expensive fishes so far.

Are rays expensive? I really want one but don't want to pay hundreds of dollars.

Depending on where you get them, yes, they can be quite expensive. At a few stores I go to, they are normally about $150-300 depending on species and size

not so sure about the price over at your side. but it cost around SGD$80 for a reticulated and around SGD$150 for a motoro over here. i spent SGD$600 on my marbled motoro.

DO NOT keep Rays with a Jardini. They tend to get extremely aggressive at around 10-12". I had to keep mine completely by himself when he was 19" because he would kill or try to kill everything kept with him, including some of the most aggressive Cichlids out there.
If you want to try your hand at rays, PLEASE set up a separate tank or get rid of the Jardini for a Silver or Black Aro. Too many Rays die in captivity as it is...
