there is no 100% way to sex arowanas. the best way is to wait for 3-5 years when they mature and if the arowana starts to lay eggs then it is a female. arowanas cant be bred with just a male and a female. u need at least 10-20 arowanas in a pond for them to find their own mate and pair up to breed.

There have been several documented instances of arowanas spawning with just a pair to a holding tank. Having said that it is ideal to have several fish in a large pond.

ive been looking but there no such luck. they are quite nippy with eachother though. as nerdy as it sounds i lovingly call them babycakes and muffin. they seem to swap leadership rolls, most of the time muffen is the one aggressing babycakes but during feeding time babycakes is the one incharge. they are of equal size so its intersting to watch their behavior. babycakes is by far more aggressive during feeding time. its generally weighting for me at the feeding corner and i have to toss some food into the tank before i get close to it to feed because b.c. will jump out of the water at my face or hand. dont worry i have protecive plastic netting around the top to the tank so that they can jump up but not out. when i freedive in the tank to clean b.c. and muffen have absolutely no fear of me and will swim directly next to me, over me, and i have even had to push them away from me cause they were getting in my way. they watch me with intent on what im doing (is that normal?).
