im looking to buy a silver aro. i bought one previously but he died 2 days later for some odd reason. my thought was it was because when the store owner took him out of the tank he jumped and fell 7 feet down to the ground. i wanted to buy another one but now im sceptical. i checked my ph and its at 7.2 and my nitrites are at zero. my temp sits at 81 degrees. im just worried on spending 80 dollars again to keep him for 2 days lol

Where are you located? $80 buck for a silver aro, how big is the fish? They usually cost $24-30 for a 6" silver aro. Your pH is way to high.

ph is high but that won't hurt him. As long as that is what it is out of the tap and you can keep it consistent. My tanks run a 7.2-7.4 and I have bred Dicus and I keep a silver aro too. I paid $20 for my silver and it was 6"-8" but it was from a friend that owns a LFS and that is what he paid for it. He charges $50 in his store. I would try again they are well worth it. Mine is about 17" now and is one of the prettiest fish in my tank. Just be more careful next time cause as you figured out, they definitly jump.

Yeah, I have to do the same. The good thing about that is, If you want a rarer aro it aint that much more since you will have to have it shipped. Where as most people who spend $20-$30 for a silver have that much more to spend for a rarer one. Probably a dumb thought but hey better than being a pessimist (sp?)
